All the action in the book takes place in Cochin, a fictionalised version of the town of Kochi, a port city in Kerala, India.

The base for our main character, Sub-Inspector Vasanth Nair. Just north of the Spice Market on Fort Cochin Island. The man in charge is Nair's boss, the corrupt Inspector Kurien.

The backwaters of Kerala, lush, verdant and a hideout for criminals of all dispositions.
ST. DAVID'S LANE IN UPMARKET KACHERIPADY
Who lives in the grand house at the end of the lane? Why such huge gates? And why have none of the neighbours ever seen the residents?
